Italy – Palermo, Monreale

The Italian living lab consists of a set of municipalities in Calabria as well as Palermo and Monreale (Sicily) for which socio-cultural technical as well as governance aspect will be investigated. The focus is on supporting resilient and affordable districts and buildings within municipalities in Southern Italy where energy poverty is a widespread issue.

The two different areas include both large cities and very small municipalities thus covering most of the archetypical differences among residential. Aim is to make these cases of a combination of them (e.g., connected via energy communities) PED ready, thus investigating also both energy efficiency solutions as well as potential for energy generation district-wise in a PED perspective. While also a cocreation process is planned (physical and online) and the Italian cases will result in prefeasibility studies rather than mature concepts as in the other Living Labs.

The municipality of Palermo will also be focus of the application of the energy/urban planning Territorial Acupuncture methodology, formalized within the RESPED project.
